Manual
Preferences
⌘, opens Preferences — nine pages. Nearly every row routes through the same command surface the agent uses, so a Preferences change and an agent change are provably the same operation. Settings persist to prefs.json (with look/geometry settings in their own files) under ~/Library/Application Support/Zammoth/.
Audio
The live device panel: output device (with test tone), input device, sample rate, buffer size, advanced options, active MIDI inputs, MIDI output. Below it, Engine: Audio threads (Automatic or a fixed core count — applies on the next playback graph) and Resampling quality (Lagrange fastest / Sinc fast / Sinc medium / Sinc best — affects new clips).
MIDI
MIDI inputs — one row per input with its current summary and a Settings… menu: Enabled · Listen on channels (all, or any set of 1–16) · Channel (keep incoming, or force to one) · Note range (all / lower half / upper half / keyboard range) · Fixed velocity · Recording lands as (merge into the existing clip = overdub / replace what was there / new clip each pass) · Input quantize (off, or any of the engine's grids) · Timing trim (±20 ms) · whether the device is MPE.
Settings persist per device. Sync out — per MIDI output device: Clock / MTC / MMC checkboxes (with a pointer to macOS's IAC Driver if you have no MIDI outputs). OSC remote control — Enabled + Port (default 9000; localhost-only).
Control Surfaces
Your bound Mackie-protocol controllers, each with MIDI IN/OUT pickers, and Add controller… (Mackie Control Universal, Icon Pro G2, Tranzport, AlphaTrack, ReMOTE SL). Binding an input port is what enables a surface. The surface and the screen follow each other: selecting a track in Zammoth banks the surface's faders to it and lights its select LED, and pressing SELECT on the surface moves Zammoth's selection to that track. Focusing something that isn't a track (the master, a VCA head) selects nothing rather than pointing the surface at a stale one, so it simply keeps its bank.
Recording
Metronome On · Only-while-recording · Sound · Rhythm; Count-in (None/1/2 bars); Punch on/off; Input monitoring (Off / Automatic — the default / Always on); Retrospective buffer (Off / 10 s / 30 s — default / 1 min / 2 min — what ⌥⌘R can recover); Automation record (Touch / Latch — default / Write); Recorded file Format (WAV/AIFF/FLAC) and Bit depth (16/24 — default /32-float); Latency offset (±200 ms recorded-audio trim, shown beside the driver's measured round-trip latency).
Editing
Keyboard shortcuts… (rebind any command — see Appendix A); Snap on/off · Grid mode (Adaptive/Fixed) · Adaptive width (five steps) · Fixed grid (8 bars…1/32) · Triplet grid — all restored on the next launch; Follow playhead; Auto-warp imports (BPM-tagged files warp on drop); Clip edge fades (a 3 ms de-click on new clips, off by default); Undo history (Unlimited / 500 / 100 / 30).
Appearance
Skin (the seven accents) · Meters (the six looks) · Interface size (70–200 %). Same settings as the View menu.
Help ▸ Tooltips (default on) — hover any control and a small card names it and says what it does. Turn it off here — or with the ? icon in the arrangement's tools row, which is the same switch — and every tip in the app stops at once; nothing else changes. Tips cover the mixer strips and their readouts, the track heads, the device dock, the Preferences pages and the Export window.
Agent
Model — every current Claude model (Opus 5 is the default); the same list as the composer's model word — and Reasoning effort (Low / Medium / High / X-High / Max), matching the composer's effort word exactly. A model without the level you pick runs at the highest level it has below it (Opus 4.6 and Sonnet 4.6 have no X-High; Haiku 4.5 has no effort levels), and your pick is kept for the next model that has it. Changes apply from the next message. Default mode — Ask (approve each change) or Agent (applies changes).
Anthropic API key — the engineer thinks on your own Anthropic key (billed by Anthropic, not by Zammoth). Status says whether one is set; the API key field is write-only: paste the key and press Return (or Save key). It is checked with Anthropic — one free call that also proves the key can reach the model — and stored in your login keychain by the engineer process; this app keeps no copy, and the field never shows it. Remove key forgets it. Create a key at console.anthropic.com; a new account's rate limits are low and rise with use.
Files & Updates
New projects in (your project root); Auto-save (Off / 10 s / 20 s — default / 30 s / 1 min / 5 min); New projects ▸ Safety limiter on the master (default on — a ceiling-only −1 dBTP limiter seeded on every new project's master; the CLIP lamp / ⌥⌘L toggles it on any project); default export bit depth and dither; Scan / manage plug-ins…; Updates — check on launch (default on), Check now, Reveal settings & logs.
