Dynamic EQ

Up to six bands whose gain changes only while the band's own level is over its threshold. Each band has a threshold, ratio, attack and release. The plot draws a band's maximum range as a dashed outline and the gain it is applying now as the live curve.

The Dynamic EQ's expanded view: one band near 770 Hz with its dashed range outline, its threshold marker and its controls over the live spectrum.

Parameters

A band that only cuts when its own level crosses a threshold — for harshness, mud, or a resonance that comes and goes. One aggregated box, up to 6 bands, each breathing live with its own gain reduction.

Controls and display

The surface: the same face as the EQ — no panels, no knobs, no wells, just the plot. Each band is a numbered node you drag for frequency and range, with the wheel for Q. What a dynamic band shows on top of a static one is all drawn on the plot itself:

  • Its range is the dashed outline, with the space between it and the live curve shaded. That is the most this band will ever move.
  • Its live curve is the lit one, breathing toward that range as the music pushes it.
  • Its threshold is the dashed tick on the node's own line, drawn against the spectrum, with a bar showing the band's own level. The bar lights when the level is over the threshold, which is the moment the band starts working.

Beside each node, the frequency sits above and the gain the band is applying right now below. That second number moves with the music and dims when the band is resting. The selected band adds a third line whose cells are the controls: drag Q, THR, RNG, ATK or REL, and double-click any of them to reset it. Hold SOLO, or Command-click the node, to hear only that band's slice of the audio.

Along the foot: ANALYZER shows or hides the spectrum, ENV hides the range outlines and threshold ticks so you can read the bands alone, PIANO puts a keyboard along the bottom and note names beside the bands (hold Shift while dragging to land on a note), and GR on the right is how much the whole device is pulling down at this instant.

The chain's small box shows the same face without the third line — there is no room for it at that size. The band's parameters are on the box's own knob row, revealed on hover, and in the full pane.
