Multiband Compressor

Three bands split by fourth-order Linkwitz-Riley crossovers, each with its own threshold, ratio and makeup. A band's ratio is bipolar: right of centre is downward compression, left of centre is upward compression, which raises material under the threshold. The display draws the input and output spectra and fills the difference in each band.

The Multiband Compressor's expanded view: low, mid and high bands over the spectrum with a threshold line and a reduction figure in each, and four reduction meters.

Controls and display

The per-band Ratio knob is bipolar: right of centre = normal downward compression; left of centre = upward compression (bring quiet material up) — the same switch as the face's COMP / LIFT pads.

Surface (the in / out field): the track's spectrum drawn twice — the input as a faint fill in each band's colour (low violet, mid blue, high green), the output as the bright line — with the gap between them filled red where a band is pulling and in the band's colour where a LIFT band is adding, so the reduction is visible across frequency. Each band carries a chip (LOW · −22.0 DB · 3.0:1 · +1.5 · ▼ COMP), its threshold as a dashed line, and its reduction stamped in the lane; the crossovers are dividers with labelled pills.

The tower column on the right shows LOW / MID / HIGH / TOTAL reduction on a 0…24 dB scale (a COMP band lights red from the top, a LIFT band from the floor in its colour) with the value cells, the COMP / LIFT pads and the crossover cells. The knobs sit in three console decks under their band (threshold / ratio / makeup) with attack / release under the column; in the narrow pane they fold to one strip. In the focus pane the FIELD · TAPES chip switches the picture to three tapes: six seconds of each band's level with its threshold and its reduction as a curtain — the same switch as view.mb_tapes.

Focus-pane drags: a band's threshold (on the field or its tape), a crossover pill; click a pad to flip COMP / LIFT; double-click a threshold for −24 dB, a crossover for its default.
